Birth Mothers: What If I’m Not Sure Yet? I Don’t Want to Waste Your Time

Birth Mother Not SureIf you are facing an unplanned pregnancy, you are not alone. According to Planned Parenthood, about half of all women in the U.S. have an unplanned pregnancy at some point in their lives. It can be a scary time, but you should never feel like you are alone in this process. It is important to develop a support system – friends, family, co-workers, and/or counseling professionals.

“Unexpected pregnancies are not events that should be dealt with alone,” says Elizabeth Danish, HealthGuidance. However, not everyone is lucky enough to already have a strong support system around them. But this doesn’t mean you are alone. “If you feel like it’s hard to find support within your family or circle of friends, try finding support from other places,” says Felicia Curcuru, Huffington Post. “You can see that through an adoption agency worker/counselor,” adds Dean Kirschner, Ph.D., LCSW-C, Adoption Makes Family.

What If I am Not Sure? I Don’t Want to Waste Your Time

“Being informed is the only healthy way of acting once women find out about their pregnancy,” says Danish. And Adoption Makes Family is here to help you along your journey – no matter what you decide in the end. We are hear to listen to you and help you make a more well-informed decision.

“Information and support is important,” says Planned Parenthood, “but the decision is personal and only you know what’s best for you.” Here are some questions to ask yourself:

  • How do I feel about someone else raising my child?
  • Can the adoptive parents provide better care?
  • Am I in a place in my life where I can be a good parent?
  • Would I consider other options?
  • Can I handle pregnancy and childbirth?
  • Am I prepared to cope with the feelings of loss I may have? Remember, post-placement counseling is available.
  • How do I feel about open or closed adoption?
  • Do I have a strong support system – people in my life who will support me through my pregnancy, birth, and adoption process?

No one can ever make this decision for you, but Adoption Makes Family can certainly help educate you on your options. So, please never feel like you are wasting our time.

Adoption Makes Family was founded to meet the needs of birth parents and adoptive parents in a manner that is sensitive, compassionate, and personal. We will provide you with counseling to help you on your journey.
