Adoption Counseling Services

An unplanned pregnancy is a time that’s filled with emotions and uncertainty. You need someone who can help you explore your options such as adoption versus parenting your child. You may want someone to help you explore the details of how adoption works and provide the emotional support you need to make a sound decision for you and your child.

Adoption Makes Family serves as more than just a mediator between you and an adoptive family. We aim to foster a genuine connection with you so you feel like you are part of our family. One of the ways we do this is through adoption counseling.

In addition to providing detailed guidance on the adoption process itself, we offer a range of adoption counseling services for you. We believe that this emotional support is a crucial aspect of work and a priority for our team.

Initial Work

Adoption counseling begins the moment you reach out to our office for an initial consultation. Adoption Makes Family is dedicated to knowing, understanding, and meeting your needs in a manner that is sensitive, compassionate, and personal.

We understand the factors that are at play as you consider adoption. Every situation is unique and complex. Working through the details of your situation requires the guidance of an experienced counselor who can help you come to a decision about whether adoption is the right fit for you and your baby.

Adoption Makes Family provides a positive and affirming environment to explore the options necessary for creating an adoption plan. We want you to be able to explore every aspect of adoption in a safe, compassionate non-judgmental environment. Once you reach a decision, we will support you in that decision and remain flexible if anything changes along the way.

Creating a Plan

After the initial consultations are complete, the next step in adoption counseling is determining a plan for how and when the adoption will occur. This includes the logistical details and anticipating the emotions that may come up along the way. We understand this is a difficult stage in your life. The staff at Adoption Makes Family walks you through every step of the adoption process, helping you make the best decisions for both you and your baby.

How will you feel about the adoption a year from now, five years from now, or 10 years from now? That is just one example of the questions we try to answer during adoption counseling. We know that the answers will likely change over time.  Putting the questions in the open can help you be better prepared for them when they arise in your mind.

After the Adoption

Counseling support services can continue long after the adoption itself is complete, depending on your preferences. You are encouraged to stay as close as you feel comfortable. The support is here for you. Adoption Makes Family will continue to provide counseling services for as long as you need them. You set the schedule for how and when you receive counseling services.

We can meet with you in person, talk over the phone, or even connect you with a support group as additional resources. Again, this is entirely up to you and your wishes after the adoption. Your needs for counseling may change over time, and our relationship with you will change right along with it.

Take the Next Step

If you are considering adoption but have not talked with a professional counselor, please contact us to speak with one of our staff members. Even if you do not end up utilizing our adoption services, having a trained, impartial perspective is crucial at any step of the adoption process.
